Authorities thwarted a possible attack at Tolosa National High School in Leyte after Senator Bam Aquino alerted the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) about online threats, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Thursday.
Remulla disclosed Aquino called him Wednesday night to report chatter of an impending mass shooting.
The DILG chief immediately referred the matter to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), which traced the posts to a 14‑year‑old Grade 10 student.
The student allegedly created multiple Facebook accounts and posted warnings of a planned stabbing or shooting, alarming parents and residents.
Investigators later confirmed she had no access to firearms and found no evidence of an organized plot.
Remulla said the incident may have been influenced by Monday’s deadly shooting at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City.
He urged the public to treat all threats as real until neutralized and to report suspicious activity immediately via 911.
No charges were filed against the minor due to provisions of the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act. She remains with her family while authorities continue their probe.# (ZIA LUNA)
