ACT Teachers Partylist Rep. Antonio Tinio has filed House Resolution No. 1157 directing the House of Representatives to investigate the recent school shooting and other violent incidents, with the aim of addressing systemic drivers of school violence nationwide.

Tinio stressed that structural factors worsen risks for children and teenagers.

Findings from EDCOM2 show overcrowded classrooms significantly heighten bullying, intimidation, and safety concerns, with public school class sizes reaching 60 or more students and classroom backlogs exceeding 160,000.

Severe personnel shortages also compound the problem. The education sector requires more than 150,000 public school teachers to reduce class sizes to the global standard of 35 students per class. # (RRN)
