Remulla Unfazed by INC Rally, Ombudsman to Pursue Plunder Case vs. Marcoleta

Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said Wednesday the Office of the Ombudsman will proceed with filing a plunder case against Senator Rodante Marcoleta before the Sandiganbayan by the end of the week, despite a two-day rally staged by Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) in support of the lawmaker.

“Nothing is changing. Nothing has changed,” Remulla told reporters, stressing that the INC’s mass action would not affect the Ombudsman’s timetable.

He acknowledged the group’s right to free expression but rejected claims of “selective justice,” calling them a “wrong premise.”

“There is no selective justice in the country when it comes to the Ombudsman,” Remulla said.

The case stems from allegations that Marcoleta failed to declare ₱75 million in campaign donations during the 2025 senatorial elections. Remulla earlier announced that charges would be filed, a move that has drawn criticism from Marcoleta’s supporters and prompted INC’s mobilization.

The Ombudsman’s statement underscores its resolve to pursue the case amid political pressure and public demonstrations. # (ZIA LUNA)
