Jeepney Driver Faces LTO Sanctions After Passenger Falls Due to Aggressive Driving

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a Show Cause Order against the registered owner and driver of a jeepney involved in an incident where a passenger fell after the vehicle swerved aggressively on a public road.

Based on a viral video submitted to the agency, the jeepney was seen performing abrupt maneuvers that caused one passenger to fall and sustain injuries.

Initial investigation also indicated that the driver failed to stop and assist the victim after the incident.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao directed the driver and operator to appear before the Intelligence and Investigation Division to submit sworn statements.

The operator faces charges of employing reckless and discourteous drivers, while the driver must explain alleged violations including reckless driving and failure to render assistance in an accident.

The driver’s license has been ordered surrendered and placed under a 90-day preventive suspension.

The jeepney itself has been flagged with an alarm to prevent any transfer or transaction during the investigation.

Assistant Secretary Lacanilao stressed that public utility drivers carry a heavy responsibility for passenger safety.

“When a driver endangers passengers and fails to fulfill his duty after an incident, accountability must be immediate. That is the purpose of the LTO’s swift action in this case,” he said. # (ZIA LUNA)
