Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said his office had anticipated the Sandiganbayan’s decision allowing former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. to post bail in his malversation case.
Speaking on DZRH’s Executive Session, Remulla stressed the need for stronger coordination among government branches to reinforce the anti-corruption drive.
“We predicted this to happen. Alam naman namin ito… Meron talaga mangyayari na mukhang natrabaho, na magkaroon ng grant of bail,” Remulla said in his radio program.
He added that he intends to meet with the Supreme Court to discuss measures against graft.
Revilla, detained at the Quezon City Jail, was freed Friday after posting ₱1 million bail. The Sandiganbayan Third Division earlier granted his petition. In January, he also posted bail for a graft case tied to a supposed flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan.
Assistant Ombudsman Mico Clavano said the office “respects the orders and decisions of the Sandiganbayan” but will “exhaust all remedies” to underscore its finding that evidence of guilt against Revilla is strong.
Malacañang, meanwhile, said it respects the anti-graft court’s ruling. # (RRN)
