President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday said he will endorse a presidential candidate in 2028 who can continue his administration’s anti-corruption campaign, but admitted he has yet to decide who that will be.
“I will certainly endorse a candidate in the 2028 elections. Who that is, I don’t know. Maaga pa. So far we only have one person who has thrown her hat in the ring,” Marcos told members of the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines (FOCAP) during a luncheon.
He stressed that his endorsement will go to someone he believes can sustain reforms and “continue our anti-corruption measures.”
Marcos said he has not yet spoken to any potential presidential aspirant, but assured that “the time will come” for him to select “the best candidate” to succeed him.
“I haven’t sat down with anyone and said, ‘Do you want to run for president or not?’” he noted.
“The time will come and we will provide… We will certainly provide the best candidate for the betterment of lives of Filipinos,” Marcos added.
“We will choose the best possible candidate. We will continue what we have started, and we will bring even new and hopefully even better initiatives to the development of our country.” # (ZIA LUNA)
