Sandiganbayan grants Revilla ₱1-M bail in malversation case

The Sandiganbayan Third Division has approved the bail petition of former Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., ordering his provisional release upon posting of ₱1 million in connection with his malversation charge over an alleged anomalous flood control project in Bulacan.

In its ruling, the anti-graft court said prosecutors failed to present strong evidence of guilt in the supposed falsification of documents that facilitated the release of ₱76 million for the non-existent project in Pandi.

Revilla has been detained at the New Quezon City Jail since January on the non-bailable charge.

The prosecution had accused Revilla of conspiring with Department of Public Works and Highways officials to channel funds to the ghost project.

Meanwhile, the tribunal denied bail pleas of other accused, including DPWH engineers Brice Hernandez, Jaypee Mendoza, Arjay Domasig, and Emelita Juat, as well as accountant Juanito Mendoza and cashier Christina Pineda. # (ZIA LUNA)
