NUJP Slams China Embassy for Dissing Reporters

The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) on Monday declared solidarity with members of the Defense Press Corps and Filipino journalists covering Philippine-China relations and the West Philippine Sea.

The NUJP statement came after the Chinese Embassy questioned reporters’ grasp of facts.

The group stressed that Filipino journalists uphold rigor, professionalism, and ethical standards, and their role is to provide context and scrutinize claims on matters of national interest.

“Do not shoot the messenger,” NUJP said, noting that coverage of sensitive issues is about informing the public through accurate and independent reporting, not hype.

The union underscored that constructive engagement requires respect for the press, even when reporting proves uncomfortable or unwelcome.

The NUJP praised the Defense Press Corps for its commitment to truth and fairness, urging the Embassy to ground any scrutiny in facts rather than sweeping judgments about journalists’ competence or intent. # (ZIA LUNA)
