The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has issued subpoenas to Batangas 1st District Rep. Leandro Leviste and former congressman Jacinto “Jing” Paras in connection with an alleged destabilization plot against a senior government official uncovered during a human trafficking operation.
The development stemmed from an entrapment at a five-star hotel in Manila, where agents arrested a talent manager accused of trafficking women for sexual services. According to the NBI, the suspect allegedly offered women for up to ₱250,000 each, with some clients reportedly from government.
NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag said the operation revealed not only trafficking but also a scheme to discredit officials.
“Habang iniimbestigahan namin sila, doon lumabas na hindi lang pala si Executive Secretary ang target. Plano raw nilang gamitin ang grupong ito para sa character assassination,” Matibag said.
One rescued victim reportedly identified individuals linked to the plot, including Paras and Leviste, who was alleged to have provided funding.
“Kailangan silang magbigay-linaw sa mga lumabas sa pahayag ng mga iniimbestigahan. Mahirap naman kung sa social media lang itatanggi ang mga alegasyon,” Matibag added.
The NBI said both Leviste and Paras are required to appear before investigators.# (ZIA LUNA)
