Matibag Says Due Process Observed Amid Duterte Libel Complaint

NBI Director Melvin Matibag on Friday said he would wait for a copy of the libel and cyber libel complaint filed by Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte, stressing that the lawmaker has every right to seek legal remedies.

Matibag maintained that due process was observed in the case, saying Duterte had been invited by the National Bureau of Investigation and that his lawyer had formally responded to the agency.

Meanwhile, GMA Network said it has yet to receive a copy of the complaint and will review the matter once it is served.

Duterte filed the complaint before the Office of the City Prosecutor in Davao City against Matibag, dismissed police officer Rodulfo Gracioso Jr., and several GMA executives and journalists, including Felipe Gozon, Gilberto Duavit Jr., Mel Tiangco, Vicky Morales, Emil Sumangil, Darlene Cay, Marvin Parado, Joel San Luis, and unidentified respondents.

The complaint stems from allegations made by Gracioso that he delivered billions of pesos in cash to Vice President Sara Duterte. It also comes after Matibag raised concerns over 47 of 100 flood control projects located in Duterte’s congressional district.# (ZIA LUNA)
