The House prosecution panel on Thursday formally asked the Senate impeachment court to issue subpoenas for retired Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang, Office of the Ombudsman Records Division officer-in-charge Karen Batu, and Securities and Exchange Commission Director Gerardo del Rosario, as part of preparations for the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte scheduled next week.
In its request, the panel underscored that “the testimonies of the foregoing witnesses are material, relevant, and necessary to establish the allegations under Article II of the Articles of Impeachment, including those concerning unexplained wealth, false Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs), and continued business interests.”
Prosecutors earlier signaled they may present 20 to 25 witnesses to substantiate claims of unexplained wealth, depending on whether the defense agrees to stipulate the authenticity of thousands of financial records. # (ZIA LUNA)
