Metro Manila and several provinces in Luzon remain submerged in floodwaters as heavy rains from the Habagat continue to batter the region.
Against this backdrop, the Koalisyong Makabayan has sharply criticized the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., branding its flood control initiatives as âwalang pakinabangâ despite billions of pesos allocated for such projects.
Government records show that from 2023 to 2025, more than 9,855 flood control project amounting to â±545 billion were rolled out under Marcos Jr.âs infrastructure program.
Yet, residents in Cavite, Bulacan, Batangas, and parts of Metro Manilaâincluding Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Pasigâcontinue to wade through waist-deep waters.
The coalition argues that the persistent flooding underscores the inefficacy of these projects and raises questions about governance and accountability.
The statement comes just two weeks after Marcos Jr.âs State of the Nation Address, with Makabayan asserting that the administrationâs failures highlight systemic corruption.
The group warned that the upcoming 2027 National Budget deliberations must be closely monitored, particularly the use of Unprogrammed Appropriations (UA), which they claim serve as conduits for pork barrel projects benefiting legislators.
âLahat ng sangkot, dapat managot! Marcos singilin, Duterte panagutin!â the coalition declared, urging vigilance from the public and demanding accountability from both the executive and legislative branches.
