Escudero Sets Trial Calendar Amid Budget Talks

Presiding Officer Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero on Tuesday announced the formal schedule of the impeachment trial, adjusting proceedings to accommodate the Senate’s budget deliberations.

Escudero said tomorrow’s session will convene at 10:00 a.m. at the Recto Room for the marking of evidence. He outlined the following timetable:

– Sept. 8–30 – Hearings from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., followed by regular Senate sessions for the Committee on Finance.

– Sept. 30 – Trial to run the entire day.

– Oct. 1–15 – Consecutive full-day hearings.

– Oct. 16–Nov. 8 – Trial suspended for budget deliberations and preparation of the Senate version.

– Nov. 9–18 – Floor deliberations on the budget. Escudero said trial dates may be “squeezed in,” but hearings will most likely remain suspended until Nov. 18.

Escudero assured that the schedule will be reflected in the official journal and copies will be furnished to the parties. # (RRN)
