Senator-judge Panfilo “Ping” Lacson appeared to slip in airing his view on the Department of Education’s ₱112.5 million confidential fund during the tenure of Vice President Sara Duterte as secretary of the agency.
Pressed on DWIZ’s Usapang Senado program whether violent incidents in schools could justify the DepEd’s confidential allocation, Lacson was cautious.
“Hindi naman kasi wala naman silang law enforcement function eh. Confidential fund para saan?” Lacson said.
He declined to elaborate, stressing that as one of the judges in Duterte’s impeachment trial, he could not discuss the merits of the case.
Still, Lacson underscored that the proceedings are open to the public, allowing citizens and the media to scrutinize the evidence and arguments presented.# (RRN)
