Businessman Manuel V. Pangilinan and top officials of Ateneo de Manila University have been summoned to appear before the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) in connection with the deaths of student-athletes Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Ateneo president Fr. Roberto Yap is expected at CIDG headquarters Wednesday, while Pangilinan is scheduled Thursday.
Pangilinan is widely recognized as the primary benefactor of the Ateneo Blue Eagles basketball program, having funded recruitment, coaching staff, and operations for decades through the MVP Sports Foundation.
Remulla added that Fr. Nemesio “Nemi” Que, Ateneo vice president for social development overseeing student and athletics formation programs, has already given testimony to investigators.
The PNP-CIDG is set to file charges before the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Friday.
“Halos tapos na ang imbestigasyon namin. Medyo conclusive na. Sa Biyernes, isusumite namin sa DOJ for filing ang kaso,” Remulla said. # (RRN)
