Is the electorate truly informed when making their voting decisions?
In addition to education, a solid track record in public service, and genuine concern for the community, the moral integrity of a politician is crucial, as it serves as the foundation for effective governance.
A video posted on the Bombo Radyo Davao Facebook page on March 7, 2025, has garnered 675,000 views, showcasing inappropriate jokes made by Camarines Sur 2nd District Representative LRay Villafuerte during an event at an undisclosed school in Nabua.
This incident has drawn criticism from netizens, raising concerns about Villafuerte’s state of mind at that moment.
“I don’t like your jokes sir. It’s inappropriate especially infront of minors. This is not the right venue.”
“ganito na ba klase mga lider ng bansa”
“sabog cguro to”
“Bangag nga ito…..kung ano ano pinagsasasabi….nkakahiya….”
“bastos nga Ang mga salita PranG nkadrugs”
“walang plataporma kundi pakikipag away Kong ako na sasakupan niyan never ko e eboboto yam”
“The place isn’t good for such rough jokes! Especially it’s school and he’s in public.”
In February 2025, Villafuerte faced backlash after he labeled the 2025 Midterm Elections Preference Polls conducted by TheSPARK— the official community publication of Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC)—as “fake” and “biased.”
According to TheSPARK’s report, “Reforma’s Rodriguez received nearly half of the 498 votes at 43%, while Team One’s Villafuerte secured 30%, indicating that one in every four CSPCeans remains undecided about their choice for governor as of the first week of December.”
Villafuerte accused Fernan Enimendez, the associate editor of the campus publication, of being influenced by individuals who lack genuine affection for CSPC, Nabua, and the entire province of Camarines Sur.
Several groups and individuals have rallied in support of TheSPARK against what they perceive as Villafuerte’s bullying tactics.
Earlier, Villafuerte was also criticized for a viral photo showing him distributing cash to residents submerged in floods caused by Typhoon Kristine in October 2024 while aboard a rubber boat.
Villafuerte is a candidate for governor of Camarines Sur in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections and hails from the Villafuerte political dynasty, which has held power in the province for several decades. (ZIA LUNA)
