Escudero unfazed by People’s Impeachment Movement‘s signature campaign

Senate President Chiz Escudero rejected the signature campaign initiated by the People’s Impeachment Movement, which seeks to show public support for starting impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Escudero stated that no matter how many signatures are gathered, they cannot amend the law or persuade him to convene the impeachment court during recess without meeting the necessary legal requirements.

“No amount of signatures will amend the law nor convince me to violate it by convening the impeachment court during recess and without complying with the requisite conditions precedent,” Escudero remarked.

He emphasized that the law cannot be altered or influenced by those seeking to expedite the impeachment process against VP Sara.

“The law is not bendable and should not bow to anyone’s dictate simply because of their own desire, bias, and timetable of wanting to rush the impeachment proceedings against VP Sara,” Escudero asserted. (ZIA LUNA)
