Ariel Querubin, a retired Marine Colonel, Medal of Valor awardee, and senatorial candidate, has called upon the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to uphold neutrality, remain loyal to the Constitution, and serve as a stabilizing force in the current chaotic political environment.
He described the political landscape in the country as highly toxic and divisive, advocating for discussions around armed conflict to foster national development.
“Let it be clear, ‘yung armed forces natin noong araw eh hindi pa masyadong na-professionalize unlike today na kung papansinin mo, very professional ang armed forces at ang trust rating niya ay napakataas,” he stated during an interview on ERE (Eksklusibong Ratsada Etc.) program on The City Post Facebook page.
“Kaya ang advise ko nga sa kanila, dapat nariyan pa rin kayo. You remain neutral, remain loyal to the Constitution and ingatan ninyo kasi kayo yung fulcrum. Kayo yung maglalagay ng stability sa ganitong sitwasyon na chaotic. In the sense na it’s all about politics and our politics has become very toxic, very divisive kaya ‘yan ang sinasabi ko na panawagan ko noong una na why don’t we talk, why not settle all our differences with armed struggles kasi if we continue fighting each other, we will never progress. That was really meant for the armed groups,” he explained.
For Querubin, the nation’s leaders need to reach a consensus and address issues such as corruption and the West Philippine Sea (WPS) in unity with the Filipino people.
“Nag-away yung dalawa, nagsagutan. Panawagan ko rin sa kanila, why don’t you sit down and talk. Address the issues na dapat united tayo. Yung issue about corruption. Yung issue about West Philippine Sea.” (ROSE NOVENARIO)
