First time mom welcomes New Year baby at Fabella Hospital

A 27-year-old mother gave birth to a New Year baby at Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, January 1, after a 40-week pregnancy.

As the clock struck midnight, Lea Mae Razo welcomed her newborn, Alea Jayde, just in time for the New Year celebration.

“Mahirap po talaga mag-labor. Lahat ng sakit mararanasan mo. Pero pag nakita mo na si baby, mawawala na. Worth it kahit papaano,” said Razo, who had been in labor since 11 a.m.

“Hindi ko naman po ine-expect na manganganak ako eksaktong 12. Siguro ganun talaga, 2025 new blessings din,” she added.

Razo explained that her baby’s name is a combination of her and her husband’s names.

Midwife May Olipio expressed joy at delivering her first-ever New Year baby.

“Iba ‘yung happiness. Iba ‘yung pakiramdam, lalong lalo na wala akong anak. Ganu’n pala ang feeling,” Olipio said.

Dr. Jergen Cruz, Fabella Hospital’s Senior House Officer, confirmed that Razo delivered Alea Jayde without complications but noted that, unlike previous years, the New Year baby will not receive special perks due to the absence of sponsors.

Nearly an hour later, the hospital welcomed another baby girl, born to a 24-year-old first-time mother after laboring since 4:49 p.m. (TCSP)
