The House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability has revealed that almost two-thirds of those listed as recipients of P500 million in confidential funds from the Office of the Vice President (OVP) under Vice President Sara Duterte lack birth records.
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), of the 1,992 names submitted for verification, 1,456 were found to have no marriage records, while only 536 showed possible matches. Furthermore, 1,593 individuals were reported to have no death records, with just 399 having corresponding entries.
These revelations were detailed in a letter dated December 11 from National Statistician and Civil Registrar General Undersecretary Claire Dennis Mapa to Rep. Joel Chua, who chairs the committee and represents Manila’s 3rd district.
The names currently being scrutinized appeared on acknowledgment receipts (ARs) submitted by the OVP to the Commission on Audit (CoA) to validate the use of confidential funds from late 2022 through the third quarter of 2023.
Chua emphasized that the PSA’s recent findings strongly indicate that the acknowledgment receipts (ARs) used to account for the P500 million in confidential funds may have been falsified. (ZIA LUNA)
