The Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) wants to rehire the topnotcher of the 2024 Bar exams after resigning to review for the said test.
In an interview on Friday, December 13, Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra said 2024 Bar exam topnotcher Kyle Christian Tutor was a legal secretary and planning officer at the OSG for several years while taking up law at the University of the Philippines.
However, Guevarra said Tutor had to focus on reviewing for the exam that lawyers must pass to be admitted to the bar of a jurisdiction.
The Supreme Court of the Philippines, through the Supreme Court Bar Examination Committee, usually exclusively administers bar exams.
“Malaking bagay ang working in a law firm like the OSG,” Guevarra said.
“I will ask him to rejoin us,” he added, now that Tutor is a lawyer.
The OSG, a body within the Department of Justice (DOJ), serves as the government’s primary legal officer and defender.
Tutor earned the top spot in the 2024 Bar Exams with a score of 85.77%. He outshone 10,490 examinees who took the test in September, earning a place among the 3,962 successful candidates set to become lawyers.
The passing rate for this year stands at 37.84%, higher than last year’s 33.77%, which was influenced by a slight decrease in the passing grade from 75% to 74%. (TCSP)
