FOUR individuals living under the impression that joining the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) is an easy way to be rich, are now behind bars following an entrapment operation over efforts to extort millions of pesos from a fugitive Korean national.
This comes as NICA launched an investigation on the four unnamed personnel who were arrested in Pasay City by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in view of a complaint filed by the foreigner.
According to reports, the arrest came after the four NICA officers allegedly demanded another two million from the supposed “victim” who already gave them half a million to avoid being arrested.
According to the Korean national, the suspects allegedly introduced themselves as Immigration agents who were given orders to arrest him in view of a Bureau of Immigration record that shows he has an existing warrant.
To avoid jail – and possible deportation, the Korean agreed to pay P450,000 during their first encounter. Days after he was able to walk away from the “arresting officers,” he received another call from the same group demanding another two million, for which he decided to ask help from the NBI.
At this juncture, the NBI set up an entrapment operation which resulted in the arrest of the fake Immigration officers who later turned out to be connected with Palace-based NICA.
Interestingly, the Korean fugitive who is on the BI list was spared from the arrest.
Meanwhile, NICA claimed that they are taking an allegation of such magnitude as a serious matter. (ANGEL F. JOSE)
