Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) president Renato Reyes Jr. denounced the recent US military operations in Iran, describing them as acts of aggression that undermine global peace.
“We denounce in the strongest terms US military aggression in Iran,” Reyes said. “The military operations come after Israel launched a preemptive strike on Iran, and amid a deadlock in US-Iran negotiations regarding the latter’s nuclear development program.”
Reyes argued that Washington’s demands on Iran’s nuclear program amount to “complete surrender,” adding:
“The US is not interested in negotiations, only capitulation. And when Iran did not blink, the US treacherously launched military operations.”
He further described the United States as “the number one warmonger and genocide supporter in the world,” asserting that its actions are driven by oil and a desire to maintain dominance in the Middle East.
“Because of oil, the US wants to maintain dominance over the Middle East by removing every threat to its hegemony. Like Venezuela in Latin America, countries like Iran who do not bow to US dictates are targeted, destabilized and bombed.”
Reyes also warned against the use of EDCA sites in the Philippines for US military operations, urging the removal of “imperialist warmongers” from Philippine soil.
“We should not allow the US to use its EDCA sites in the Philippines for its war on Iran. We should kick out the imperialist warmongers from our soil.”
He concluded by rejecting the participation of Donald Trump in international meetings hosted in the Philippines:
“The fascist Trump should not be invited to attend any international meetings in the Philippines. He should be rejected by the Filipino people and the peoples of the world.”
Meanwhile, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. confirmed that the government is monitoring the situation closely.
“We have received reports of airstrikes which hit Iran. We are in the process of getting more information,” Marcos said.
He emphasized the protection of overseas Filipinos in the region:
“In the meantime, the safety of Filipino citizens in Iran and in the Middle East is paramount. I have instructed the DFA and the DMW to take measures to determine their whereabouts in affected areas and to take immediate measures to ensure their safety.” (ZIA LUNA)
