Detained former military agent Ramil Madriaga faces alleged threats to his life after executing an affidavit implicating Vice President Sara Duterte in the second impeachment complaint filed against her.
His lawyer, Atty. Raymund Palad, revealed that Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) personnel informed Madriaga of an offer of a large sum in exchange for his death.
Palad clarified, however, that their camp continues to trust the security measures enforced inside BJMP’s detention facility.
Madriaga’s affidavit, endorsed by lawmakers Akbayan Partylist Rep. Percival Cendaña and Mamamayang Liberal Partylist Rep. Leila de Lima, claims he delivered duffel bags allegedly containing money to certain individuals linked to the Vice President.
Palad said Madriaga is prepared to testify before Congress, the Senate, or the Ombudsman if subpoenaed, and they are seeking access to three mobile phones held by the court that may contain photos and text messages corroborating his claims.
Currently detained in Taguig over a kidnapping case, Madriaga intends to apply for the Department of Justice’s Witness Protection Program, citing threats to his safety following his statements against the Vice President. (ZIA LUNA)
