Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero expressed full support for newly appointed Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon, calling his leadership a “fresh opportunity” to overhaul one of the country’s most embattled agencies.
In a statement, Escudero acknowledged the immense challenges facing the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), which has recently come under fire for alleged corruption in flood control and infrastructure projects.
He emphasized that Dizon’s “hands-on approach and fresh perspective” could be key to confronting the deeply rooted problems that have long plagued the agency.
“Rooting out corruption is just the first step,” Escudero said. “Equally important is ensuring that all DPWH projects serve their purpose and truly improve the lives of our countrymen.”
The Senate President also pledged institutional support for Dizon’s reform agenda, saying the chamber stands ready to back initiatives that promote transparency, efficiency, and accountability in public infrastructure spending.
“The Senate stands ready to support the reforms Sec. Dizon will pursue to ensure that public works are delivered efficiently, transparently, with full accountability and in the service of the Filipino people,” Escudero added.
Dizon’s appointment follows the resignation of former DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, who stepped down amid growing calls for a full audit of flood control projects and confidential fund allocations.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has tasked Dizon with leading a comprehensive organizational sweep of the DPWH and restoring public trust in infrastructure governance.
Escudero’s statement signals a rare moment of alignment between the executive and legislative branches, as both face mounting pressure to deliver on anti-corruption promises under the Bagong Pilipinas banner. (RRN)
