Vice President Sara Duterte said on Friday, February 7, that resignation is not an option for her as her legal team has been preparing for a potential impeachment since November, following the announcement of impeachment plans by opposition lawmaker Rep. France Castro.

“We’ve already started preparing the moment Rep. France Castro announced the impeachment plan in November. So as of November, there were already lawyers doing their work for the impeachment. We will leave it to the lawyers,” Duterte said in a briefing in her office in Mandaluyong.

The Vice President emphasized that her legal team is handling the preparations, though she admitted she is not directly involved in the details of their work. “We’re still reading the… Actually, we’re still not there because it’s just the lawyers working on this. I really don’t know what they are doing,” she added.

When asked if resignation was being considered as an option, Duterte dismissed the idea, stating that such a scenario is not on the table as the trial could take place in the Senate this June.

The Vice President also said that his father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, is welcome to join her legal team and give his advice on her impeachment case.

However, she expressed reservations about her father taking a leading role in the defense due to his age and the demanding nature of impeachment proceedings.

“He is a lawyer. So he is welcome to give his advice, maybe if he wants to, he can be part of the defense team,” Duterte said.

“But because of his age and because of the rigorous preparations in an impeachment case, I might tell him not to take the lead because of his age,” she added. (TCSP)
