Political sorties have already started and a candidate running as district representative in Pasig City, Atty. Christian “Ian” Sia unwittingly found himself embroiled in a controversy when he mouthed an unsavory remark about female solo parents.
“Para sa mga solo parent ng Pasig, minsan sa isang taon ang mga solo parent na babae na nireregla pa—‘Nay malinaw nireregla pa—at nalulungkot, minsan sa isang taon pwedeng sumiping ho sa akin. ‘Yun hong interesado magpalista na sa mesa sa gilid,” he said in a recent campaign sortie.
That left a bad taste in the mouth as Gabriela Partylist called out Sia for his utterly lewd misogynist slur. The said partylist group urged the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to look into the matter as it might have serious election offenses.
Sia’s commentary is bereft of sensibility, considering he is seeking to hold office in the House of Representatives, whose primary function is to formulate laws.
His campaign aria reeks of utter disregard for the sensibilities of those women who were solely raising their child/children.
It was, to say the least, below the belt as it conjure an image of a very desirable man who is seemingly duty-bound to solve the carnal desire of a single parent.
Any way one looks at it, it is completely devoid of decency, considering that Sia is a lawyer by profession.
Sia owned up to his shenanigans and apologized.
“Inaako ko po ang responsibilidad sa mga nabitawan kong salita. I’m sorry po na lumabis po ang aking salita at mali po ang napili kong biro,” he said.
Sia believes that politics has something to do with his now viral video. His camp felt that Mayor Vico Sotto had something to do with his now infamous clips on social media.
This is quite ridiculous as Vico has never talked negatively of any political wannabe, be it in the past or otherwise.
A group called PANTAY (Philippine Anti Discrimination Alliance of Youth Leaders) filed a complaint against Sia at the COMELEC while Solo Parent Partylist filed a case of fair elections act against the lawyer.
