It’s the season of filing of candidacy and the atmosphere is very festive.
Candidates for re-election or otherwise, take centerstage as they make public their platforms and their usual promises which more often that not are broken.
If there’s a singular bad trait that rears its ugly head among politicians, it is the collective lack of palabra de honor. They were born liars and will die as dishonest individuals.
Many, if not most of them are not worth voting for.
One, they make false promises. They are not true to their words.
One candidate in the past said he will stop endo, the practice of shewred businessmen where they end contractual employees after serving five months to avoid giving them the benefits of a regular employee. When legislators made a law exonerating the endo problem, the then politician easily vetoed it.
Has anyone solved the perennial traffic and flooding problems? Since time immemorial, binabaha pa rin naman ang main streets in the metropolis even while there’s a budget of more than one billion per month to address the problem.
There’s poverty problem which has never been addressed properly. There’s one government official that said a person is no longer living below poverty line if he is able to eat a meal worth P21 pesos or a complete daily meal worth P64 pesos.
Hindi ba malaking katangahan ‘yun?
Did anyone address the issue of political dynasty? No one, ‘di ba? Why will they do that when their family members run for public office and make politics as their kumikitang kabuhayan.
Has anyone of them raised the criteria for those seeking public office? Wala naman, ‘di ba? With this, we have legislators who did not reach college level and they were just basking on their popularity to get elected.
Time was when legislators were academicians, lawyers, bar topnotchers, cum laudes and multiple degree holders.
Wala ng ganoon, ‘di ba?
Has anyone of them made the prices of commodities low? Wala naman, di ba? Kapag gusto ng malaking budget, magpapasa ng tax kahit hindi naman dapat. Kaya biglang may sin taxes. They raised the tax for cigarettes and liquors kaya nagtaaas ang presyo ng sigarilyo at alak. Sino ang nagdusa? Eh, di ang mahihirap na Pilipino kasi hindi naman ininda ng mga congressman at senators ang mataas na presyo kasi multi-millionaires naman sila.
It’s voting time once again next year and from all probability, we will see the same political surnames enjoying victory not because they were voted for but because they bought their mandate.
Wala namang eleksyon sa bansang ito na walang dayaan.
That’s a fact and beyond deniability.
