Teachers and educ workers run for salary increase

With almost a week left before the 3rd State of the Nation Address (SONA) of Pres. Marcos Jr., teachers and education workers held a 5.0Km Run with the theme “Takbo Para Sa Umento” today in UP Diliman, Quezon City to amplify calls for salary increase.

“Public school teachers and employees long await substantial salary increase as our last tranche of salary adjustments ended in 2023 while the government is yet to pass a law mandating for a new round of increases. Educators and employees in private schools, on the other hand, have been suffering too long already from measly salaries that at times do not meet even half of what is received by employees in the public sector, especially for those in the provinces,” explained Vladimer Quetua, ACT Chairperson.

“Takbo para sa Umento is a part of the Teachers’ National Day of Action for Salary Increase which will feature various protest fitness activities such as Zumba dance and aerobics in various regions of the country,” added Quetua.

Teachers and education workers reiterated their following salary demands to the Marcos administration:

  1. P50,000 entry-level pay for teachers;
  2. P33,000 for SG1 employees;
  3. SG16 for Instructor 1;
  4. Sahod sa pribado, ipantay sa publiko.
