Community Health Workers held a General Assembly of Parish-based Health Workers on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Ina ng Buhay Parish in Novaliches, Quezon City. It was attended by 39 CHWs from Bagong Silangan, Capri, Gulod, and Nagkakaisang Nayon in Quezon City and from Caloocan City and Valenzuela City.
During the General Assembly, Ms. Amelita Laviste, a Parish-based Health Program Coordinator, discussed the people’s right to health and the challenges CHWs are facing in the current social and economic climate of the country while Dr. Jamie Dasmariñas, a community physician of CHD, discussed the COVID-19 FLiRT variant and what precautions to take against the virus.
After the program, the People’s Solidarity and Education Tours (PSET), in partnership with the Council for Health and Development (CHD) and the Parish-based Health Program (PBHP), gave First Aid Kits to the CHWs as part of their program “Empowering Community-Based Health Programs (CBHPs) Amid the Pandemic” which is supported by the Waldensian Church of Italy’s Otto Per Mille program. The first aid kits and certificates of participation were personally handed by Ms. Dawn Aquino and Ms. Rachel Aguilar of PSET to the CHWs. PSET also prepared snacks for the attendees.
We thank the PBHP and PSET for helping us organize this event and all of the CHWs who attended and participated in the General Assembly! Let’s continue to organize, educate, participate, and struggle for a free, comprehensive, and progressive health care system! | via Council for Health and Development | Facebook
