The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) joins all anti-imperialist forces worldwide in rejecting Donald Trump’s second presidency, which poses a grave threat to global peace, workers’ rights, and Philippine sovereignty.
Trump’s administration continues the United States’ imperialist and fascist agenda, deepening global rivalries and escalating tensions, particularly in the Asia-Pacific. His protectionist policies and aggressive nationalism will undermine workers’ rights globally, including those of Filipino workers. Trump’s presidency signals intensified exploitation of labor markets and jeopardizes sectors such as the BPO industry, where thousands of Filipino jobs face uncertainty due to potential reshoring and automation.
Domestically, the Marcos Jr. regime is complicit in advancing US imperial interests, prioritizing foreign dictates over national development. Since 2022, Marcos Jr. has enabled the expansion of US military outposts in the Philippines, allowed provocative war games, and supported labor export policies instead of strengthening national industries. Trump’s ascendancy will only embolden these policies, with the Philippines serving as a staging ground for the US’s militarist agenda, rewarding corrupt local allies at the expense of Filipino workers and sovereignty.
ACT condemns the anti-labor, anti-migrant, and anti-poor policies perpetuated by both the outgoing and incoming US administrations. The return of Trump signals heightened attacks on workers’ rights and Philippine sovereignty. Teachers, workers and the Filipino people must unite against these oppressive policies. Our fight for genuine national industrialization and the expulsion of US military forces remains more urgent than ever.
ACT call for the immediate removal of US troops and military facilities from the Philippines and the termination of exploitative military agreements. Filipinos must resist unhinged fascists like Trump and their local puppets who use our nation to further imperialist interests, risking regional peace and sovereignty.
We enjoin all Filipinos to stand in solidarity with American workers and citizens resisting Trump’s administration and to strengthen our collective struggle against imperialism and exploitation. Localized protests against US bases and imperialist policies are crucial steps toward asserting Philippine independence and national sovereignty.#
