The Congress of Teachers/Educators for Nationalism and Democracy (CONTEND) strongly condemns Vice President Sara Duterte’s recent histrionic display at the House of Representatives as a desperate attempt to divert public attention from the grave corruption allegations surrounding her confidential funds.

This melodrama cannot obscure the scandalous misuse of P125 million in confidential funds spent in a mere 11 days. The congressional hearings have exposed troubling irregularities, including falsified accomplishment reports with fictitious names and signatures, blatant violations of COA regulations, and alleged bribery schemes within the Department of Education (DepEd).

The Vice President’s behavior mirrors the same authoritarian tendencies and contempt for democratic processes demonstrated by her father’s regime. Her public outburst, laden with profanity, reflects a disturbing pattern of governance that relies on intimidation rather than accountability.

Meanwhile, our education system continues to deteriorate under the weight of severe resource shortages. Classrooms lack basic facilities, teachers remain underpaid, and students struggle with inadequate learning materials. Instead of addressing these fundamental issues, public funds are being channeled into opaque “confidential” expenses that serve no clear public benefit.

We support the mounting calls for Sara Duterte’s impeachment and join the broader demand to abolish all confidential funds, which have become nothing more than instruments of corruption. These resources must be redirected toward addressing the critical needs of our education system and other essential public services.

We call on all educators, students, and education workers to remain vigilant and united in demanding full accountability. The Duterte dynasty’s attempt to portray themselves as victims while systematically plundering public resources must be exposed and opposed.#
