We, the Makabayan bloc in Congress, are appalled by Vice President Sara Duterte’s cavalier attitude towards her historic impeachment, comparing it to a mere romantic breakup. This shows her utter disregard for the gravity of the charges against her and her contempt for public accountability.
“Ang impeachment ay hindi katulad ng paghihiwalay ng magkasintahan. Ito ay isang seryosong usapin ng pananagutan sa taumbayan at ng pagwawaldas ng pera ng bayan,” Castro emphasized. (Impeachment is not like breaking up with a partner. This is a serious matter of accountability to the people and misuse of public funds.)
“The Vice President may find it amusing to trivialize her impeachment, but the Filipino people are not laughing. The missing confidential funds, the ghost employees, and the questionable transactions are serious matters that demand explanation,” Brosas stated.
“Ipinapaalala natin sa Bise Presidente na ang impeachment ay hindi isang simpleng Valentine’s story. Ito ay tungkol sa milyun-milyong piso ng kaban ng bayan na hindi mapatunayan kung saan napunta,” Manuel added. (Let us remind the Vice President that impeachment is not a simple Valentine’s story. This is about millions of pesos in public funds that cannot be accounted for.)
