Health Workers Partylist continues to stand with the Filipino people for free comprehensive and quality public health services. We oppose the transfer of Philhealth funds as this will further make health inaccessible. Thus we call on the Supreme Court to declare such move illegal and unconstitutional.
Funds resulting from the inefficient handling of PhilHealth should not be taken away at the cost of people’s access to health. The state must adequately and directly allocate funds to public health through the public hospitals and other government health facilities to ensure free access to health delivery services.
Public funds should be directly allocated for free healthcare, not for business, not for corruption, and not for pork!
Health is a fundamental human and a constitutional right. Yet health inequities worsen. People from the low- and middle-socioeconomic strata become trapped in financially catastrophic medical situations.
The state’s role to ensure people’s right to health continues to be lacking with the chronic underfunding of the health system.
According to the Health Care Financing Strategy of the Philippines 2023-2028 of the Department of Health, PhilHealth faces a deficit with the full rollout of PhilHealth Konsulta, ranging from P34.5B to P62.5B. Yet, the Department of Finance has moved to transfer the alleged unused PhilHealth money to the National Treasury to finance unprogrammed funds.
As the voice of the health workers in Congress, Health Workers PartyList will continue to work to attain free comprehensive, and quality public health services for the Filipino people. #
