Today, April 7, 2025, as we commemorate World Health Day, Health Workers PartyList joins the campaign on maternal and newborn health and peopleโ€™s right to health. Both infant mortality rate and maternal mortality rate are important indicators of the overall health of a society. Hence, their worsening situation is reflective of the worsening health situation of a country.

HEALTH WORKERS PARTYLIST reaffirms its commitment to advocating for free health services for every Filipino. Health is a fundamental human right, and access to quality healthcare should never be a privilege reserved for the fewโ€”it must be a guarantee for all.

Six out of ten Filipinos die at home, according to recent statistics. This stark reality underscores the urgent need for accessible and free healthcare services, especially for the marginalized and underserved communities. A strong public health with adequate and accessible primary health care services gives focus on the primary prevention of maternal & neonatal complications and deaths. On the other hand, timely referral of complicated obstetric cases to higher health institutions cover secondary prevention.

Various health workers attend to mothers and children from the barangay health workers and rural health midwives in the communities to the midwives, nurses, and doctors in hospitals.ย  HEALTH WORKERS PARTYLIST also emphasizes the importance of prioritizing the economic well-being and general welfare of all health workers in addressing these indicators. Providing for the welfare of health workers, not only uplifts the frontliners’ lives but also enhances the quality of care we provide to the Filipino people. Safe and up-to-standard staffing as well as humane working conditions, also enable health workers to provide the highest quality of care we can possibly give.

Lastly, HEALTH WORKERS PARTYLIST calls for direct funding for public health services. The transfer of unused PhilHealth funds to the national treasury is a disservice to the Filipino people. These funds should be allocated to expand free healthcare services, provide essential medicines, and hire regular health workers.

On this World Health Day, let us unite and act towards our common goal of State-funded, free, comprehensive public health services. Let us join the efforts of other health advocates and peopleโ€™s organizations in the Philippines and globally for peopleโ€™s right to health! #
