Lanao del Sur Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong has urged the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look into former President Rodrigo “Digong” Roa Duterte’s recent comments about killing 15 senators to facilitate the election of his preferred candidates.
Adiong pointed out that if the NBI is investigating Vice President Sara Duterte’s alleged threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, it is only appropriate also to scrutinize the former president’s remarks.
During an event in San Juan City, Duterte discussed the upcoming elections and the current Senate makeup, suggesting extreme measures to ensure victory for his allies.
His comments were met with enthusiastic cheers from his supporters, who chanted, “Kill! Kill! Kill!”
Adiong emphasized that such statements should not be overlooked, particularly given past incidents where Duterte’s supporters have acted on his words.
He acknowledged that while Duterte may claim his comments were meant as a joke, “he cannot disguise threats against senators as mere humor.” Therefore, he called on the NBI to investigate whether these violent statements fall under existing legal frameworks. (ZIA LUNA)
