Actress Rufa Mae Quinto turned herself in to the National Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday, marking her return to the Philippines about a month after her representatives confirmed that an arrest warrant had been issued against her in connection with an alleged investment scam.
Quinto arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport around 5 a.m. with her family by her side.
According to NBI International Airport Investigation Division Chief Jimmy De Leon, her lawyer had coordinated with the authorities to facilitate her surrender.
The actress is set to appear before the Pasay court that issued the arrest warrant.
Quinto faces 14 counts of violating Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code, stemming from complaints filed by investors against the skincare company Dermacare.
The actress has maintained that she is “also a victim” of the alleged scam.
“I have no connection whatsoever to any fraudulent activity and I categorically deny these baseless accusations,” she stated previously, emphasizing her commitment to seek justice in this securities violation case. (ZIA LUNA)
