Rufa Mae Quinto released on P1.7 million  bail

After spending the night at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), comedienne  Rufa Mae Quinto was sent home after posting a P1.7 million bail.

Atty. Mary Louise Reyes, in an interview, said her client posted  bail  for the 14 counts of violation of the Securities Regulation Code she is facing, with each bail amounting to P126,000.

Rufa Mae was even in high spirit after posting bail, saying, “Naniniwala po ako na justice is very fair kaya uwi na ako. Go, go, go home.”

Turning emotional at one point during the interview, she expressed fear after facing her various cases.

“Nakakanerbiyos po lahat ng nangyari sa akin, nakakalungkot, pero naniniwala po ako na ang katotohanan ay magpe-prevail,” she said.

“Naiiyak ako kasi ang sarap maging malaya,” she further said.

Reyes explained that her client who was to post bail upon her arrival on  Jan. 8, wasn’t feeling well. With this, they spent the night at the NBI office and posted bail the next day.

Rufa Mae was issued an arrest warrant  last month following her violation of the SRC’s Section 8, where it is stipulated  that “securities shall not be sold or offered for sale or distribution within the Philippines, without a registration statement duly filed with and approved by the Commission.”

Denying Quinto’s allegations against her, Rufa Mae, in a previous statement said: “I categorically deny these baseless accusations. If anything, I am also a victim and I am determined to seek justice.”

“As a public figure, I have always demonstrated my professionalism, transparency, and respect for the people and brands I work with,” she stressed.

“It is dejecting to see my name being dragged through the mud, but I remain steadfast and confident that the truth will soon prevail,” she added.

Representing 39 complainants, Atty. Roberto Labe, said on TV Patrol that his clients were “enticed” to invest in  Dermacare even if they don’t have the necessary  license to solicit investments.  The investments have already reached P89 million with investors coming from Pasay City,Quezon City and  Sta.  Rosa.

“Kinasuhan po namin ma’am ay lahat ng board of directors nila doon sa Dermacare Corporation na ‘yun plus lahat po ng mga endorser. Siguraduhin po sana natin na ‘yung ine-endorse nating produkto or corporation or services ay legitimate po,” Atty. Labe said in hid interview with GMA’S 24 Oras last week.

“Sabi nga po ng aking mga kliyente, kung bakit po sila ay lalong nagtiwala sa corporation na ‘yun dahil alam po nilang matino naman po ‘yung mga artistang endorser,” he added. (NIGEL CHAVEZ DE ESTRADA)
