Robin Padilla Criticizes Jay Ruiz Over ‘We Lost Sabah’ Remark

Senator Robin Padilla has strongly criticized Presidential Communications Office Secretary Jaybee “Jay” Ruiz for his controversial statement during a recent House hearing on online disinformation.

Ruiz’s claim that “We lost Sabah” has drawn sharp reactions, particularly from Padilla, who emphasized that the Philippines’ claim to Sabah remains alive and valid under Republic Act 5446.

Padilla, a staunch advocate for the Philippines’ sovereignty over Sabah, expressed disappointment over Ruiz’s remarks, calling them baseless and harmful to the nation’s historical and legal stance on the territory.

He urged government officials to exercise caution and responsibility in their statements, especially on sensitive issues like Sabah.

The senator also highlighted the importance of adhering to Memorandum Circular No. 162, which prohibits any act or statement implying recognition of a foreign state’s sovereignty over Sabah. Padilla reiterated his commitment to defending the Philippines’ claim and called for unity in upholding the nation’s territorial rights. (ZIA LUNA)
