Rep. Castro:VP Duterte’s Budget Hearing Boycott Underscores Accountability Issues

House Deputy Minority Leader and ACT Teachers Partylist Rep. France Castro has criticized Vice President Sara Duterte for her absence during the recent budget hearing, labeling it a violation of her oath of office and a betrayal of public trust. Castro emphasized that Duterte’s actions have only intensified calls for accountability.

“Lalong nadiin si VP Duterte sa pagboykot niya ng budget hearing,” stated Rep. France Castro. “This act is a clear violation of her oath of office and a betrayal of public trust. Kung impeachable na dati, lalo pa ngayon.”

During the proceedings, the House appropriations committee deferred discussions on the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) P2 billion budget, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability in the management of public funds. The committee has proposed potential reductions or fund transfers until further deliberations are conducted.

The Commission on Audit’s recent findings have exacerbated concerns, citing overpriced rentals, low fund utilization, and management issues within the OVP’s budget. These revelations have prompted lawmakers, including ACT Teachers Rep. France Castro, to demand greater scrutiny and oversight.

“We cannot allow mismanagement to go unchecked, especially when it concerns the welfare of our people. The funds should be allocated to the appropriate agencies that can genuinely serve the public interest,” Castro added.

Rep. Castro calls on Congress to continue its diligent examination of the OVP’s budget and urges Vice President Duterte to fulfill her responsibilities to the Filipino people by addressing these issues transparently.#
