MANILA – A ranking official of the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) has risen to one of the key positions of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
In a statement Wednesday, AFP public affairs office chief Col. Xerxes Trinidad said Marine Brig. Gen. Jimmy Larida assumed the military’s deputy chief of staff for operations (J3) post during short ceremonies in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on Tuesday.
Larida succeeded Air Force Col. Jessie Banastao, who was designated as AFP deputy chief of staff for operations in an acting capacity.
“Prior (to his) assumption, Brig.Gen. Larida commanded the AFP’s Joint Task Force National Capital Region (JTF NCR). He also served as the deputy commandant of the PMC; commander of the 3rd Marine Brigade; commander of Jolo Internal Defense Force; and chief of staff of JTF-Comet, Westmincom (Western Mindanao Command),” Trinidad added.
Larida is a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1991 and holds a Master’s degree in Military Studies from the United States Marine Corps University in Virginia. (PNA)
