Public Outcry Builds as  ‘Maneuvers’ Threaten Sara Duterte Impeachment

Amid growing concerns over Senate secret budget insertions, dismissal of the impeachment complaint by the Senate impeachment court, and looming Supreme Court intervention, civic and religious leaders are renewing calls for public vigilance and mobilization under the “Sara Litisin” campaign.

This urgent rallying cry follows the June 3, 2025 statement signed by over 300 bishops, clergy, women religious, academics, lawmakers, youth leaders, and people’s organizations—urging Filipinos to defend the historic impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.

“This is not political persecution. It is a demand for accountability over P612.5 million in misused public funds,” campaign organizers reiterated.

Despite the mounting public pressure, the Senate has returned the articles of impeachment to the House, layered new procedural hurdles, and signaled openness to dismissing the case without a full trial.

Advocacy groups warn these steps risk normalizing impunity for those accused of large-scale corruption.

In a powerful statement dated July 23, 2025, campaign leaders declared:

“From what we are seeing today, it is imperative that we continue the call ‘Sara Litisin!’ and prepare for the State of the Nation Address and the succeeding days when the Senate impeachment court is set to reconvene.”

They urged the public to speak out, organize, and actively participate in the process, stressing that every Filipino is a stakeholder in safeguarding both taxpayer money and democratic accountability.

“Sara Litisin” is not just a slogan; it is a demand for justice.” (ZIA LUNA)
