Consumers can look forward to stable prices for essential goods in the country through the end of December.
This assurance was provided by Trade and Industry Secretary Christina Roque just weeks ahead of Christmas and the New Year celebrations.
During a press briefing at Malacañang, the secretary highlighted that over half of the items typically associated with Noche Buena are also expected to remain at last year’s prices.
These items include mayonnaise, ham, pasta, cheese, and all-purpose cream.
“First and foremost, for the prices for basic necessities, no price increase until the end of the year. And then, for the Noche Buena, more than 50%, the price will remain the same as last year and iyong mga iba just they increase, but less than 5%. So, that will be steady until the end of the year, para aabot siya hanggang new year,” Roque stated.
She noted that while some products have experienced price increases, they will not surpass 5%.
“Actually, there was no price increase since last year. So, of course, prices some are imported products have already increase, so they decided to request if they could increase, so we agreed on a less than five percent increase. So that at lease kahit papaano, our—the consumers will have, of course a very merry Christmas and the happy new year and not too much of increase also,” Roque added. (ZIA LUNA)
