Sexual harassment has always been a prevalent scenario mostly happening on showbiz wannabes.
It’s like a rite of passage which every aspiring talent must pass with flying colors. It is perpetrated by influential executives who wield so much power that he can make or break any aspiring talent’s dream.
The Sandro Muhlach controversy brings to fore what has long been talked about in muted conversations – that talents go through hell before they see heaven.
As common practice, executives play sexual predators, aspiring artists their willing prey.
The prize of submitting to a predator’s sexual advances is nothing to sneer at. Fame, money and power are within reach. It gives the aspiring talent the needed tools to become a popular artist. The motivation, clearly, is to be popular and become rich. That’s some of the trappings which conveniently put an aspiring star to an advantage.
Many celebrities, past and present, have succumbed to this age-old practice. They will do anything and everything in the name of fame and fortune.
But such is not the case for Sandro Muhlach. First, he came from a moneyed few showbiz royalties. Two, his acting pedigree is nothing to scoff at. Three, he’s a sensible guy who does not have to sell his body just so he can achieve success in showbusiness.
In Hollywood, stories of A-listers being victims of sexual predation by big-time executives have surfaced years ago and with some degree of success, a colossal name in the business has been incarcerated.
More often than not, a victim is not encouraged to make public his or her ordeal so he-she will be spared from public shame. They are advised to charge it to experience.
This only emboldens the predator to continue his shenanigans. For as long as there are willing victims, there would be sex-starved predators willing to take his chances at fulfilling his insatiable desire.
Sandro Muhlach’s audacity to file a case against two two independent contractors is something laudable. It is to some a small victory, an eye-opener that victims should not be quiet always.
While Sandro is doing the talking, let us all do the listening.
Of showbiz breakups and success
Breakups in showbiz are mostly ugly and ogled at with seeming condescension.
With actors as the usual suspects, it has seemingly become a karma for them to lose projects and face oblivion.
There’s Xian Lim whose career took a plunge no matter how many projects he starred at. His GMA teleserye bombed at the ratings. His movies were all flop.
But there’s an exception in Bea Alonzo whose past teleserye were all disappointing at the rating.
But such is not the case for Kim Chiu whose career soared to greater heights when her breakup with Xian Lim got publicized. She actually benefitted from it, having starred in two successful teleserye with Paulo Avelino. Now, a movie starring them together is in the horizon.
Another breakup story which made the ex-couple very positive is that of Maris Racal and Rico Blanco.
Both benefitted from the separation as both were considered successful in their endeavors
Maris has a new movie and teleserye with Anthony Jennings, her accidental love interest in Can’t But Me Love. She has a plethora of commercials, most of which with Anthony.
Rico is also doing great as a musician. He revived the classic Kisapmata and it was a great success.
