Politiko takes a swipe at OVP for calling VP Sara’s visit to Calaguas Island ‘fake news’

News website Politiko slammed the Office of the Vice President earlier this week for saying that Vice President Sara Duterte’s visit to Calaguas Island is untrue.

In the report titled “Shiminet Lie: PNP Reveals Details Of Sara Duterte’s Stay In Calaguas Island,” Politiko said that the Philippine National Police documented Duterte’s trip to the island in Camarines Norte.

OVP earlier urged the public to be careful of media outlets reporting on Duterte’s beach visit without mentioning Politiko’s report. Notably, the office also did not mention her presence on Calaguas Island.

“The Vice President was on the road today talking to the people about the current events in our country. She made stops in Vinzons and Daet, Camarines Norte and Legazpi, Albay. It is quite easy to confirm her activities through social media posts of residents in these areas,” the OVP said.

“Photos don’t lie— and neither does a police report,” Politiko said in another article in response to the OVP’s statement.

In particular, the news website said it obtained a document from Bicol Police Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon detailing Duterte’s stay in Calaguas Island from September 21 to 23 and her trip to Vinzons, Camarines Norte.

The memo showed that the Vice President arrived in Vinzons at around 6:30 a.m. of September 21 with her entourage.

From the Palencia Docking Port, they boarded a motorized boat to Mahabang Buhangin Beach in Calaguas Island. The trip took about three hours. They checked in at the I Love Calaguas Resort.

At 9 a.m. on September 22, Duterte met with Vinzons Mayor Eleanor Segundo, as well as the chairpersons and councilors of Barangays Mangcawayan and Banoboc in Calaguas Island.

As reported by Politiko, Duterte was still on the island past 6 a.m. Monday (September 23). She and her entourage left Calaguas at around 6:28 a.m. by boarding a boat en route to Vinzons.

The Vice President and her group arrived at the Palencia Docking Port in Barangay Calangcawan Norte in Vinzons around 8:37 a.m.

Duterte visited the municipal hall and subsequently went around the historical sites of the town such as the Wenceslao Vinzons Shrine, the Heritage Education Museum, and the St. Peter the Apostle Church.

Duterte and her entourage left Vinzons around 11:25 a.m., with their convoy heading towards Talisay, Camarines Norte. (TCSP)
