The Philippine passport has dropped in ranking on the world’s most powerful passports list for 2025.
Latest data from the Henley Passport Index showed that the country now holds the 75th position, falling two spots from its previous rank of 73rd.
The Philippine passport currently provides visa-free access to 67 countries worldwide.
The Philippines ranked 78th in 2023, 80th in 2022, 77th in 2021, and 74th in 2020.
On the other hand, Singapore has once again maintained its position as having the world’s most powerful passport, granting visa-free access to 195 countries.
This marks Singapore’s fifth time securing the top spot, having previously ranked first in 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2024. In the openness index, the city-state ranked 14th, allowing 164 out of 198 nationalities to enter without a visa.
Japan claimed second place with visa-free access to 192 destinations, while Finland, France, Germany, Italy, South Korea, and Spain shared third place, each with visa-free access to 191 countries.
Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden ranked fourth, with access to 191 destinations. Belgium, New Zealand, Portugal, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom followed in fifth, with 190 visa-free destinations.
The passport index is based on data from the International Air Transport Association, which analyzes 199 countries and 227 destinations. Countries earn one point for each destination that can be visited visa-free.
This also includes destinations where citizens can obtain a visa on arrival, a visitor’s permit, or an electronic travel authority upon entry.
No points are awarded for destinations requiring a visa or where the passport holder must obtain a government-approved e-visa before departure. (TCSP)
