A non-government organization (NGO) has urged other victims of the war on drugs to come forward and provide testimony in the case against former President Rodrigo Duterte at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.
In a statement, the Duterte Panagutin Campaign Network encouraged anyone affected by killings, illegal arrests and detentions, torture, and other crimes related to the war on drugs to reach out to them for assistance in holding the former president accountable.
The organization assured that any information shared with them would remain confidential and would not be disclosed to the public or anyone else without permission.
The group also pointed out that testimonies could be used in the ICC case against Duterte if the witness is a relative or close friend of a drug war victim or has been personally affected by the killings.
Additionally, crimes that occurred between November 1, 2011, and March 16, 2019—covering Duterte’s tenure as mayor of Davao City and the first half of his presidency before the Philippines officially withdrew from the ICC—could be relevant to the case.
The NGO also stated that testimonies from victims of arrests, torture, and other abuses not covered by the ICC case against Duterte could still be included in legal proceedings filed in local courts. (ZIA LUNA)
