Oil Prices to Rise on August 26 Amid Global Tensions, Fuel Firms Announce

Motorists should brace for higher fuel costs this week as petroleum companies announced a fresh round of price hikes effective Tuesday, August 26. The increase comes amid persistent global geopolitical tensions that continue to disrupt oil markets and drive up international benchmark prices.

In separate advisories issued Monday, major fuel retailers including Shell Pilipinas Corp., Seaoil Philippines, and CleanFuel confirmed the following adjustments:

Fuel Type Price Increase Effective Time Companies Announcing
Gasoline ₱0.70/liter 6:00 a.m. Shell, Seaoil
Diesel ₱0.50/liter 6:00 a.m. / 4:01 p.m. Shell, Seaoil, CleanFuel
Kerosene ₱0.30/liter 6:00 a.m. Shell, Seaoil

CleanFuel’s adjustments will take effect later in the day at 4:01 p.m., while Shell and Seaoil will implement the new prices starting at 6:00 a.m..

This marks the second consecutive week of fuel price increases, following last week’s ₱0.60/liter hike in gasoline and rollbacks in diesel and kerosene. The Department of Energy earlier projected upward adjustments due to developments in the Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS) and ongoing volatility in global supply chains.

With geopolitical tensions showing no signs of easing, further fluctuations in pump prices may be expected in the coming weeks. Consumers are advised to monitor advisories and refuel strategically to manage costs. (ZIA LUNA)
