The National Unity Party (NUP) may file additional cases to expel Cavite Rep. Kiko Barzaga from the House of Representatives, Deputy Speaker and NUP Chairman Antipolo City 1st District Rep. Ronaldo Puno said.
Puno made the statement in response to Barzaga’s allegation that NUP members received bribes from businessman Enrique Razon to support the speakership bid of Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez. He stressed that the accusation was baseless, noting Romualdez had no rival for the Speaker post at the time of the NUP gathering cited by Barzaga.
“Malamang dahil sa mga bagong ginawa niya, mag-file kami ng kaso for further suspension if not expulsion kasi medyo sumosobra na, parang minamaliit na yung Kongreso, binabalewala niya, pinagtatawanan lang niya yung mga desisyon ng Kongreso na nagdidisiplina ng mga members namin,” Puno said in an interview with DZMM.
He added that before Barzaga’s suspension ends and he returns to Congress, the lawmaker should undergo evaluation by a “Congress appointed psychiatrist” to determine his fitness to serve.
“Sa tingin ko hindi na siya bagay sa House anymore. Malungkot kasi kapartido namin yan, kaibigan namin yung tatay nya pero hindi na puwede yan,” Puno said.
Puno also disclosed that the NUP will dissolve its Dasmariñas chapter, which Barzaga heads, since he is no longer considered a member of the party. (ZIA LUNA)
