The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) encouraged all government agencies and the public to join the nationwide simultaneous flag ceremony on May 28 in commemoration of the National Flag Day.
National Flag Day in the Philippines is celebrated on May 28. It commemorates the first use of the Philippine flag after the victory in the Battle of Alapan in 1898.The current national flag of the Philippines was created by the Filipino revolutionary Emilio Aguinaldo in 1897. The flag was first raised after the Battle of Alapan that occurred on May 28, 1898. The battle was fought between the Filipino revolutionaries led by Aguinaldo and Spanish troops. The Spanish were defeated, and the revolutionaries recaptured the province of Cavite.
The NHCP will hold a flag ceremony at the Rizal Park on May 28, 8:00 am.
Meanwhile, other establishments were also urged to hold their respective flag ceremonies. “Inaanyayahan din ang iba’t ibang paaralan, opisina, at establisimiyento na makisabay sa Alapan at Luneta sa sabayang pagtataas ng Pambansang Watawat at pag-awit ng Pambansang Awit,” the NHCP said.
Schools, offices, and other establishments are also urged to hold their flag ceremonies.
Meanwhile, Philippine flags can now be seen along the major roads in the city of Imus days before the National Flag Day celebration this coming May 28, 2024.
Executive Order No. 179, s. 1994, states that Flag Day celebration is extended to June 12 for Independence Day as well.
